Mug - The Pīwaiwaka / Fantail’s Dance
‘The pīwaiwaka | fantail’s dance’, features a dancing pattern of pīwaiwaka | fantail’s, swooping and spreading their beautiful wings and tail feathers, as they rejoice in the bountiful supply of food.
Believe it or not, pīwaiwaka | fantail birds are one of Aotearoa | New Zealand’s fierce hunters! And those beautiful long tail feathers aren’t just for looks, they also help them to twist and turn very quickly during flight. Their favourites are moths, flies, spiders, wasps, beetles, and the occasional fruit. Yum, yum!
We are so lucky in Aotearoa | New Zealand to have such a friendly, joyful little bird hanging around. If you want to give theses little cuties a helping hand, lets keep a close eye on our furry feline friends, and a big hi-5 to you if you can set a rat trap, or two!
